Our Story

 How did we get here?

I'm Kathryn, I grew up in Hamilton, studied nutrition and food science at Otago in the '80's then worked in IT in the UK for nearly 20 years. I have always had a keen interest in food (mostly eating it!) and cooking and experimenting with different flavours and techniques. When I returned to NZ with my family in 2012, it was fantastic to reconnect with so many of the tastes and flavours of my childhood. When I was diagnosed pre-diabetic in 2014 I took a good look at how and what I was eating and chose to eat gluten-free, dairy-free, grain-free, mostly raw foods to lose weight and get my blood sugar under control. What I missed the most was bread, with lashings of cheese especially. So, I used my food science background and a lot of research on the internet and recipe books to come up with a great tasting alternative to bread, that would hit the spot in terms of containing fillings and not fall apart. Many months of research and tastings and market testing resulted in the Vitality Wraps being brought to stores in Auckland and then around the country. 

The next product range I worked on was activated almonds. I was as sceptical as anyone about this activating business - does it really make a difference? Well, apart from removing the phytic acid and other enzyme inhibitors which will aid digestion, an activated almond is altogether more CRUNCHY and has a more almondy flavour than a raw or roasted nut. Add some great flavours and you've got a delicious crunchy, tasty snack. Just right for relaxing with your favourite chilled drink. 

I'm now working on other raw, living products to make it convenient and easy for everyone to get more plant based foods into their diet. All these products are made by me and a small team in a commercial kitchen in Whangaparaoa.

OK – our wraps might not win first prize in a beauty contest, but they’re made with the best and freshest of ingredients, in fascinating flavour combinations like Apple & Coffee (don’t knock it ‘til you try it!). They wrap without cracking, and the texture is more-ishly delish. But the best thing? An instant connection with nature that tastes invigoratingly fresh, pure and wholesome.
